AMD Collaborates with Rectorat de Dijon to Enable the “School of the Future”

AMD and the Digital Educative Delegation of Rectorat de Dijon, Along with Jeulin, Axel Join Forces to Enhance Bourgogne Region School IT Infrastructure, Adopting Thin Client Solutions

Issy les Moulineaux, FRANCE 7/1/2015

AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) today announced  its collaboration as a technology advisor with the Rectorat de Dijon, in the Bourgogne region, for the deployment of an innovative technology infrastructure aimed at creating the “classrooms of the future”.

With an extensive estate of around 40,000 PCs, managed by a team of 50 IT technicians, the Bourgogne region realized it had become very complex and costly to manage. The digital educative delegation of Rectorat de Dijon and its partners have implemented a technical solution to streamline their IT infrastructure while taking into account the different needs of both teachers and students in terms of devices that are used (PC, tablet, whiteboards) and content scenarios while creating a flexible and secure environment.

The technical solution is enabled by AMD Embedded G- Series APU-based thin client devices from Axel leveraging a cloud server infrastructure powered by AMD FirePro™ S9150 graphics. It  was successfully implemented as a proof of concept at Lycée Stephen Liegeard’s Life Science Department, and is expected to be replicated in the future within a Burgundian school.

“AMD is proud to be part of this project that promotes innovation in learning and empowers future generations” said Eric Jeanmougin, managing director, AMD France. “With the support of our proven technology solutions both in thin client and in professional graphics arenas, coupled with our long history of commitment to improving education around the world, we’re confident this project will mark the beginning of an innovative and evolving way of teaching and learning for the next generations’ success.”

“One of the project objectives was to combine the quality of a traditional client with the benefits of a thin client” explained Bruno Lapetite, Engineer at Rectorat de Dijon. “The solution implemented by the Lycée Stephen Liegeard offers a strong, sturdy, perennial and manageable infrastructure that also helps reduce technical operations-related costs. Together with all the partners of the project, we aim to provide the best solution so that the new technical environment can benefit both teachers and students, but also evolve over time”.

The AMD-based thin client solution delivered by Axel, which integrates remote access management software along with ExAO software “L’Atelier Scientifique” by Jeulin,  represents a flexible platform in a single package that offers many features for power efficiency, visual experience with high resolution, and fully connected Internet experience with maximum multimedia capability.

“In a technical environment that constantly evolves, our goal is to bring students and teachers innovations that simplify their work. With this collaboration, we laid down the foundations for the future of education” indicated Pierre Tap, Monitoring Manager at Jeulin. “New possibilities offered by innovations such as remote access will transform the digital classroom as we know it today, and inspire us today to also improve and evolve our ExAO solutions for an always more convenient and easy use”.

“Digital education is an emerging trend not only in France, but around the world. Just like many other companies involved in developing solutions for this emerging segment, Axel worked closely with AMD to provide the ideal thin-client terminals that fit the requirements of Rectorat de Dijon,” commented Georges Cottin, managing director, Axel.  “Axel has been delivering thin-client terminals without operating systems for over 15 years, and this kind of project motivates us to keep on innovating for a successful education system.”
